    The first thing you should do is to understand the reasons for this behavior of the pet. A cat may not like his tray, a new sofa, the appearance of an opponent in the house or a lack of attention to his person. If the animal is not pedigree, it is better to castrate cats and cats at the age of 9-12 months. This will not only save your couch and carpets from traces of cat's urine, but also significantly prolong the life of the pet: hormonal storms only harm them.

    Can I remove the smell of urine from the couch forever?

    Cats and cats, especially those who are not sterilized, often leave foul-smelling labels on the home furnishings. How to remove the smell of cat urine from the sofa and upholstered furniture, so that not the slightest trace remains? Practice shows that if at least minimal scent traces remain, the animal will most likely repeat undesirable actions and again mark the same place.

    At once it is necessary to remind about the uselessness of every possible aromatic means: deodorants, fragrant oils, grasses, ground coffee. All these funds can not clear furniture from traces of cats urine, and only temporarily mask the smell.

    Do not use and chlorine-containing substances: chlorine enhances the smell of cat urine, also, chlorine can cause irreparable damage to colored tissues. Chlorine vapors are also harmful to living creatures: both for humans and animals.

    But effective means exist. To find out what kind of substances, it is necessary to understand the sources of the persistence of an unpleasant odor.

    Why the smell is so persistent

    The main components of the stains from urine:

    • Water-soluble urea;
    • Urochrome, leaving stains of characteristic color;
    • Uric acid, which forms water insoluble crystals.

    It is these crystals that remain on the marked animal site, preserving the smell. As soon as the temperature and the level of humidity rises, the crystals become a source of a new portion of the stench.

    Clear the sofa from the smell of urine will not succeed if you do not remove the remnants of uric acid.

    Dissolved acid in alkaline solutions and glycerol, somewhat worse – in alcohol. Strong oxidizers can be used for removal:

    • Solution of potassium permanganate;
    • Iodine solution (20 drops per 1 liter of water);
    • Aqueous solution of acetic or citric acid;
    • hydrogen peroxide;
    • Vodka or diluted alcohol;
    • Solution of soda;
    • Economic and glycerin soap.

    Soap, vodka and soda solution can quite successfully cope with fresh contaminants. A solution of potassium permanganate and iodine is not recommended for light materials. However, the stains from iodine are easily removed when the surface is heated: iodine is very volatile.It's enough to warm the stain with hot air from the dryer, and it will disappear before your eyes.

    A reliable and simple way to remove odor by improvised means

    You will need:

    • A packet of paper towels or a roll of toilet paper;
    • Mixture of table vinegar with water in a ratio of 1: 4;
    • baking soda;
    • Solution of hydrogen peroxide 3% (you can buy in a pharmacy);
    • 10 ml dishwashing liquid;
    • Household spray gun;
    • A syringe with a needle;
    • a vacuum cleaner.

    The soiled sofa must first be cleaned, removing as much as possible the traces of dirt from the surface. Spots on the upholstery of the couch wipe with a solution of vinegar. Remains of vinegar solution should be removed as much as possible, for this, you will need paper towels or toilet paper. When the surface dries, sprinkle the sofa in the most contaminated areas with a powder of soda. If the urine has penetrated deep, you will have to make a soda solution and inject it with a syringe into the thickness of the sofa.
    Pour hydrogen peroxide diluted in half with water into a spray, add dishwashing liquid and shake well. Then you need to apply the mixture to the areas sown with soda. If you injected a soda solution with a syringe inside – repeat the procedure with a peroxide solution.

    Soon you will feel a strong smell of ammonium – this is normal. Uric acid crystals react with soda and peroxide, decomposing into simple carbon dioxide and an ammonia volatile compound. After the end of the reaction, you will only need to dry the damp place and thoroughly vacuum it.

    In this way, you can clean the sofa, even from old, frayed spots of cat urine.

    Special Tools

    The industry produces a relatively broad range of products for removing organic contaminants from different surfaces. The main active components of these substances are enzymes or enzymes that decompose odorous organic residues without a trace.

    For the successful application, it is necessary to follow the recommendations correctly on the product package. Usually, the action of enzyme compounds takes time; sometimes it may be required and not one day.

    Enzymes work in a humid environment with access to oxygen, so you will have to monitor the maintenance of the desired mode. But the result, as a rule, is excellent: not only smells are removed, but also spots of any organic matter.

    Produce such funds as companies that produce veterinary drugs, and manufacturers of household chemicals.
